Your friends and family will admire your artistry in making this memorable design, but you don’t have to tell them it isn’t difficult! Front post and back post stitches are clearly explained in the instructions. By working around the post of stitches in a previous row, instead of into the top of the stitch, sharply defined textures stand out as you work the rounds.
The pattern begins with a classic granny square with the difference of cluster stitches on either side of corners and chain spaces making a modern granny that stands out from the crowd. As you continue working more rounds, colors are added that make the design show up even more. The row of diamond shapes looks like separate squares that are sewn together, but are worked in rounds as you continue the pattern. Bands of stripes, shown in the model in the two lightest colors, are added at opposite ends to increase the length and change the design from a square to a rectangle. More rounds are added, repeating design elements from earlier in the pattern, to complete the generous 48.5 x 60.5″ afghan. Requires crochet hook I-9.
